There’s just something about the South that makes it cling to its ghosts. Maybe it’s the way the air gets all syrupy in July or how moss hangs on trees like it’s heard all your secrets. Maybe it’s because in the South, telling stories is how we survive, and legends are how we hide what we can’t quite say out loud.

Every Southern town, big or small, on the road or off it, has a haunted bridge, a broken bell, and a bride who’s lost. And if you talk to folks long enough, someone will have a story about why. These aren’t just spooky stories told to scare kids on Halloween. They’re part of what keeps the South emotional, like an invisible backbone.
